Thumbs up on having a racially diverse cast without rubbing our face in it. It allows it the same narrative brevity afforded to stories set in the real world in recent history. ![]() Probably due to Adi Shankar being a little too young to have lived through the era he's making a love letter too, it plays as more of a fever dream of what it was like, similar to vaporwave's riff on 80s music and graphics.īut this has good reason for being: Set in a version of an existing fictional world it doesn't have to do the expositional legwork involved in setting up a novel fictional world. You can probably get away with not recognizing the specific 80s cartoon the title is aping, but if you don't know the difference between between Robins 1, 2, and 3, this is most likely not for you. ![]() It absolutely assumes you're well-versed in said lore. ![]() Often overly frenetic and a little too proud of dabbling in a slapdash mess of animation styles from said era, it's still a decent superhero yarn and reconstructionist take on the era. Guardians of Justice is an absolute love letter to 80s and 90s pop culture, of course heavily focusing on DC Comics. Atlas hasn't just shrugged, he's offed himself. Silver Age "Superman", beloved to the world, commits suicide on live television.
